MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College volleyball team fell to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University by a 3-1 margin Tuesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Penmen improve to 4-7 on the season while collecting their second Northeast-10 Conference victory (2-3 NE-10). The Hawks fall to 4-10 overall and drop their fourth conference game of the year (0-4 NE-10).
The Hawks collected a 25-18 victory in the third set after dropping the first two stanzas 25-19 and 25-17, respectively, but fell in the fourth and decisive set by a 25-23 margin. On the evening, Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) led the Hawks with 10 kills and 10 digs to her credit. Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) posted a team-leading 30 assists while also contributing a team-best .375 hitting percentage.
Steinwart also contributed a team-leading three service aces in the loss. Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.) recorded eight kills in the loss and Melissa Ouellet (Salem, N.H.), Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) added six kills apiece. Ross also led the team with three block assists.
For the Penmen, Megan Lesczynski and Erica Solomon recorded career-highs in kills with 23 and 19, respectively. Kendra Mikuta led Southern New Hampshire with 49 assists and Peyton Williams contributed defensively with 21 digs to her credit.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, Oct. 6 as they will face-off against American International College in a 7:30 p.m. match-up.
