Women's Soccer Falls To #1 Bridgeport 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) by a 1-0 final Tuesday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.  The top ranked team in Division II, according to the most recent NSCAA poll, improved to 10-0 on the season with the victory.  The Hawks record falls to 1-7-2 overall on the season while their Northeast-10 Conference record remains at 1-5-2.

Ashleigh Berg scored an unassisted goal at 72:47 of the second half to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 advantage that they would not relinquish.  Fresh off of the bench, Paige Adamsky fired an initial shot on goal that was turned aside by Hawks goaltender Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.).  The rebound, however, spilled out to Berg who flipped the ball on goal for the easy score from 15' out.

For the Hawks, Jackie McEvoy (Spring, Texas), Amy Millet (Lancaster, Mass.), Lindsay Johnson (Hooksett, N.H.) and Lyndsey Townsend (Vernon, Conn.) recorded shots on goal.  Bridgeport outshot Saint Anselm cumulatively 16 to nine, but fired an equal amount of shots on goal with four apiece.

Julia Hansson collected her 10th victory of the season, halting all four shots on goal.  Primera (1-7-2) stopped four-of-five shots on goal and drew her seventh loss of the season.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 8 as they travel to the College of Saint Rose to take part in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
