MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite double-digit kill totals by both Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) and Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.), the Saint Anselm College volleyball team fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven by a 3-1 final (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15) Saturday afternoon in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.  With the victory, the Chargers remain undefeated in Northeast-10 Conference play, boasting a 10-0 record to accompany a 15-4 overall record.  The Hawks record falls to 7-12 overall and 2-7 within conference play.

In the first set, three different Saint Anselm players recorded four kills, including Tencza, Gustavson and Holland McNabb (Huntington Beach, Calif.).  Kylie Kozlowski (Quincy, Mass.) recorded two service aces in the first set of Saturday's contest.  Defensively, Melissa Jewett (Newton, Mass.) contributed three digs alongside Gustavson.  Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.) and Natalie Steinwart (Aurora, Ill.) combined for a block assist apiece in the first set.

Despite a four-kill performance in the second consecutive set by Gustavson, the Hawks were unable to maintain their .276 hitting percentage from the first set.  McNabb added a service ace and three kills, but as a team, Saint Anselm made six errors in the second set.

Tencza led the way for the Hawks in the third set, cruising to a 25-23 victory.  Tencza contributed six kills with zero errors and a service ace, while Gustavson contributed four kills for the third-straight set.  Gustavson also added a solo block and four digs defensively.  Three service aces were recorded by Saint Anselm, as Tencza, Gustavson and McNabb each had an ace to their credit.

The Hawks dropped the fourth and decisive set by a 25-15 margin.  Tencza added a service ace and four more blocks in the fourth set, but as a team, Saint Anselm only mustered a .103 hitting percentage after making six errors in the rubber set.  Gustavson recorded her second and third service aces on the afternoon and Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Calif.) contributed a team-best two digs off the bench in the fourth set.

Cumulatively, Tencza led the way with 16 kills to her credit, with Steinwart contributing 40 of the team's 46 assists.  Defensively, Gustavson and Tereschuk posted a team-leading nine digs.  For the University of New Haven, Keidy Candelaria led both teams by contributing 22 kills and a game-best .432 hitting percentage with only three errors.  Chelsey Alpough was the Chargers primary setter, assisting 40 New Haven kills.  Defensively, Heather Ladao and Kualana Ane chipped in 12 digs apiece.
