Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Panthers Double Up Women's Soccer, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season, but the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to the Panthers of Adelphi University by a 2-1 final score Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.  With the victory, the Panthers improve to 8-6 overall and to 7-6 within the Northeast-10 Conference.  The Hawks fall to 3-10-2 and draw their eighth conference loss of the season (3-8-2).

Donna Liotine scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers at 75:59 of the second half to lift Adelphi to the 2-1 victory.  Kim Volinski collected the ball and carried it all the way into the goal line and dropped a pass back to Liotine who converted her opportunity on goal.  The game-winning goal was scored only 45 seconds after an Emily Masiello goal at 75:14 to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Oldfield's goal was scored only 4:45 into the contest to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead against the Panthers.  Teresa Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) crossed the ball in front of the net where it caught the head of Siobhan Flaherty (Braintree, Mass.).  Flaherty headed the ball over to Oldfield who knocked the ball into the goal for the first strike of the game for either side.

For the Hawks, Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) drew her 10th loss of the season despite making eight saves on 10 shots on net.  Sam Whitney collected the victory in goal for Adelphi, turning aside four-of-five shots on goal in the contest.

Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 26 as they travel to Rindge, N.H. to face-off against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in a 4:00 p.m. match-up.  Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, directly from the Saint Anselm College athletic department by friending us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/STAHawks) and following us on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/STAHawks).
