WALTHAM, Mass. – Keesen Howe (Norwich, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute, but the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University by a 4-1 final Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 9-4-1 on the season and to 7-3 within the Northeast-10 Conference. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-8-2 on the season and 2-7-1 within conference play.
Eric Ulmer's second goal of the contest at 5:50 of the first half proved to be the game-winning goal. Ulmer fired a shot past Hawks starting goaltender Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) following a free kick opportunity for the Falcons to give Bentley the 2-0 lead. Ulmer's second goal of the contest came only 1:14 after his first goal of the game, an unassisted tally.
Ryan Miamis scored his first goal of the season at 11:27 of the first half on a feed from Eric Ulmer, who recorded his fifth point of the game (2-1=5) with the assist. Louis Boisvert headed home a cross at 41:20 of the first half as the Falcons opened up a 4-0 lead before the close of the half.
Howe scored his sixth goal of the season at 56:58 of the second half, firing home a shot from 15 yards out from the left corner of the goal box. Howe has now scored in three straight games and has recorded a point in each of his last four contests.
Moriarty drew only his sixth loss of the season, allowing two goals on six shots on net in the first half before being removed. Mark Kotsopoulos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) began the second half of the contest in goal and made three saves. Matt Reynolds collected his ninth victory for Bentley, turning aside three-of-four shots on net for the Falcons. Bentley also turned in two defensive saves in the contest.
