LOWELL, Mass. – Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) recorded her fourth goal in three games, but the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to the River Hawks of the University of Massachusetts – Lowell by a 2-1 margin Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field. With the victory, the River Hawks improve to 9-2-2 overall and collect their eighth Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season (8-1-2). The Hawks fall to 2-9-2 overall and to 2-7-2 within conference play.
Oldfield's seventh goal of the season opened the scoring on the afternoon at 24:19 of the first half. Teresa Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) centered a ball that was knocked home by Oldfield out of the goalkeeper's reach for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
Brittany Russo scored twice for the River Hawks to secure the victory. Her first goal, scored at 50:01 of the second half, was forced home off of her own rebound and her second goal, at 69:58, proved to be the game-winning tally.
Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa.) drew her ninth loss of the season, halting five-of-seven shots on goal in the contest. UMass Lowell started goaltender Jane Hatzikonstantis who yielded one goal on two shots on net before departing in favor of Jill Carlson who collected the victory without facing a shot.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Oct. 18 as they face-off against cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University in a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
