Manchester, N.H. (January 11) -- On Tuesday night, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 63-41 final to visiting Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hawks trailed by just eight at the halftime break before the Setters pulled away in the second for the victory. Pace has now won 10 straight games in the all-time series.
Pace started the game on a 7-0 run and quickly made it a double-digit lead at 16-5 with just six minutes gone in the first half. Saint Anselm cut the lead down to seven a number of times, including on a jumper from Kelli Josephsen (W. Caldwell, N.J.) with 7:09 left in the half. The Hawks trailed 33-25 at the halftime break and were led by 13 points from sophomore transfer Curran Leighton (Dover, N.H.).
The Setters began the second half on a 17-5 run and with 8:18 left, Pace led 50-30 after a jumper from Kerri White. Pace led by as many as 23 points over the final minutes as the Setters won their second straight game.
Leighton was the lone Hawk in double figures with 13 points, along with eight rebounds. Brittany Huggins led Pace with 19 points, along with 18 points from Brittany Shields.
Saint Anselm falls to 6-8 overall on the season and 3-7 in the Northeast-10, while Pace improves to 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the league. Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday, January 15th as the Hawks travel to Saint Rose for a 1:30 p.m. start in Albany.
