Hawks Fall in 68-46 Final at Saint Rose on Saturday

Albany, N.Y. (January 15) -- Unable to overcome a career-high eight three-pointers by Saint Rose junior Ashley Rath, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 68-46 final at Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights jumped out to the 8-0 lead in the opening minutes before Curran Leighton (Dover, N.H.) got the Hawks on the board with a layup with 14:51 left. Saint Rose used four straight three-pointers from Rath to push the lead up to 25-9 with 8:19 remaining in the first period before the Hawks narrowed the gap down to 25-13 with a pair of quick baskets. An 8-0 Golden Knight run to close the first half, however, sent the game into the break at 33-13 in favor of Saint Rose. Rath had 20 points for Saint Rose to lead all scorers at the break, while Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) had four points for Saint Anselm.

Saint Rose pushed the lead to as many as 27 points on two occasions in the second half before coming away with the 22-point victory. The Hawks have now dropped eight straight contests to the Golden Knights in the all-time series, which stands at 14-6 in favor of Saint Rose.

Howard led Saint Anselm with 10 points, along with eight points and seven rebounds from Leighton. Rath led the Golden Knights with 28 points as three Saint Rose players finished in double figures. Lynsey Timbrouck also finished with nine assists for the Golden Knights, setting the Saint Rose career mark in the process.

Saint Anselm falls to 6-9 overall and 3-7 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Rose is now 11-4 overall and 7-4 in the league.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday, January 19th as the Hawks travel to Southern Connecticut for a 5:30 p.m. start in New Haven, Conn.
