Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The
2010 Saint Anselm volleyball team opened its season today with a
tri-match against Goldey Beacom College and Mercy College, falling
in both by a 3-1 final. Saint Anselm dropped to 0-2 overall after
the two contests.
In the first match, the Hawks won the first set 25-16, but
dropped the next three 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22. Stephanie
Devlin (Beverly, Mass.) and
Charlotte
Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) each recorded 11 kills in
the match to lead both teams. Kyla Gustavson
(Nashua, N.H.) tallied 13 digs which led
the Hawks, and Rachel Flaherty
(Cold Spring, N.Y.) assisted on 36 Hawk kills.
Monica Dempsey
(Secaucus,
N.J.) led Goldey Beacom with 25 assists
and 14 digs as the Lightning went on to grab the victory.
In the second match, Saint Anselm lost to Mercy by a score of
3-1, with game scores of 24-26, 20-25, 25-17 and 23-25. Tencza led
the match with 20 kills and recorded a very impressive kill
percentage of .400. She also tallied 17 kills to lead the match.
Flaherty contributed 39 assists during the match which led the
match.
On the defensive side, Margaret Tereschuk (Mission
Viejo, Calif.) led the Hawks with 17 digs and
Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, N.Y.) contributed
13 for the Mavericks.
The Hawks will next play on September 7th at Southern New
Hampshire University at 7:00 p.m. They then open their home
schedule against Franklin Pierce on September 11th with a 2:30 p.m.
