Manchester, N.H. (September, 28) – On a
wet and soggy Melucci field, the Saint Anselm Hawks men's soccer
team played non-conference opponent C.W. Post to a 1-0 loss this
afternoon. The Hawks fall to 1-6-1 overall (Northeast-10, 1-3-1)
with the loss, while the C.W. Post Pioneers improve to 3-4-1
overall (ECC, 1-1).
The first half was scoreless the entire way through, as
Eric
Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) made six saves for the
Hawks, and Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark)
made five saves for the Pioneers. Keesen Howe (Norwich,
Conn.) and Justin Labonte
(Pembroke, Mass.) each put two shots on goal for the
Hawks.
The second half began as the first half finished, with neither
team finding the back of the net early. Moriarty was called into
action twice to make two saves in the first 10 minutes. The Hawks
best chance in the game came in the 79th when Andrew Parker (East
Haddam, Conn.) attempted a shot that just barley went over
the crossbar after a Saint Anselm corner kick.
C.W. Post scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute when
Joakim Ohlson (Lund, Sweden) placed the ball just
out of Moriarty's reach on a shot to the left side of the goal.
The Hawks will return to action this Saturday when they travel
to Northeast-10 Conference opponent UMass Lowell. The game will
begin at 1:00 pm.
