Albany, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm men's
soccer team earned their first win of the season this afternoon at
Saint Rose in 1-0 fashion. Justin Labonte
(Pembroke, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season to
give the Hawks the win, which improves their record to 1-5-1
overall (Northeast-10, 1-3-1) and drops Saint Rose's record to
1-5-1 (Northeast-10, 0-4).
The first half was contested evenly, with Saint Rose's six
attempted shots and Saint Anselm's five. Three of the
Saint Anselm shots were put on target compared to just one by the
Golden Knights. Eric Moriarty
(Center Harbor, N.H.) made three saves in the first half
for Saint Anselm to keep it scoreless.
The second half was much the same, with both teams not able to
break through, until Labonte scored in the 58th minute
off of a Keesen Howe (Norwich
, Conn.) headed pass. Labonte one-timed the
ball into the left side of the net. The game-winning goal was the
Hawks first of the season.
Moriarty made eight saves in the game to give him his first
shutout of the season.
The Hawks will next play at home on September 28th
against C.W. Post. The game will kick off at 4:00 pm.
