Manchester, N.H. - The Saint Anselm Hawks
volleyball team played their first Northeast-10 Conference match of
the season tonight against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire
University. The Hawks dug in, winning the third game, but lost the
match 3-1. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-5 overall (0-1,
Northeast-10) and brings the Penmen record to 5-1 (1-0,
Northeast-10).
The Penmen set the pace early by winning the first game 25-8.
Southern New Hampshire controlled the second game as well, winning
by a 25-11 final. In the third game, the Hawks rallied back to win
28-26 and force a fourth game.
In the third game, Lauren Ross
(Dracut, Mass.) tallied five kills for the Hawks, while
Rachel Flaherty
(Cold Spring, N.Y.) added five digs and a service ace.
The Hawks rallied on, and were down 10-8 in the fourth game, and
eventually tied the score at 17-17. The Penmen then controlled
again, getting the score to 23-19 before winning the fourth game
25-21, and taking the match 3-1.
In the match for the Hawks, Charlotte
Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) recorded 10 kills and nine
digs, while Flaherty assisted on 26 points. Samantha Elliot
(Cumberland, R.I.) added eight kills and two blocks.
The Hawks will take the court again at home this Saturday,
September 25th against Stonehill. The match is scheduled
to begin at 12:00 pm.
