Syracuse, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm Hawks
women's soccer team played in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup
this afternoon with the Le Moyne College Dolphins. When time had
expired, the Hawks fell to the Dolphins by a final score of 1-0.
With the loss, the Hawks drop to 1-4 (Northeast-10, 1-3), as the
Dolphins improve to 2-2-2 (Northeast-10, 1-2-2) with the
victory.
Le Moyne controlled the first half early, forcing Hawk
goalkeeper Jackie Cooney
(Braintree, Mass.) to make two saves in the first nine
minutes of the game. In the 23rd minute, Le Moyne sophomore
Christine Morano (Highland, N.Y.) netted the only
goal of the game. Morano took a slight touch on the ball which came
across the left side of the 18-yard box from Rachel
Farnerti (Marcellus, N.Y.) and scored the game-winning
goal for the Dolphins.
In the game for the Hawks, Cooney made nine saves, including six
in the first half. Junior Teresa
Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.) put two shots on net,
while Lindsay Johnson
(Hooksett, N.H.) took three shots.
Saint Anselm takes the field again on Tuesday, September 21st at
home against the Stonehill Skyhawks. The Northeast-10 Conference
game is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
