Colchester, Vt. - The Saint Anselm Hawks played
their final game of the DoubleTree Kickoff Classic this morning
against Saint Thomas Aquinas. The two teams battled hard and
the game came down to the wire when in the 88th minute, Saint
Thomas Aquinas netted the game-winning goal for a 3-2 Spartan win.
The loss drops Saint Anselm to 0-4 overall (0-2, Northeast-10)
while Saint Thomas Aquinas improves to 5-0 overall (0-0 ECC).

Davren (Mahopac, NY) scored the first
goal for Saint Thomas Aquinas just inside the nine minute mark. The
score was quickly answered by Saint Anselm one minute later on a
goal from Justin Labonte
(Pembroke, Mass.). Labonte's goal was the Hawks first
score of the season.
Saint Thomas took five total shots in the first half, including
another goal by Davren in the 32nd minute. Before the half expired,
the Hawks scored again on a header by Michael Kearney
(East Bridgewater, Mass.) to tie the game at two.
Kearney's goal was the first of his Hawk career.
The second half played at a slower pace as each goalkeeper made
big saves. Andrew Tartara (Bardonia, N.Y.) made
three saves in the second half and Hawk goalkeeper Dan Klisiewicz
(North Andover, Mass.) made two saves. In the 88th minute,
the Spartans broke the deadlock with Brendan
Flynn's (Monroe, N.Y.) third goal of the
season. Flynn turned and ripped a shot off a bouncing ball across
the 18 yard box.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, September 18th
against No. 1 ranked Le Moyne College. The contest is
slated to begin at 11:00 am.
