WINTER PARK, FLA. - The Saint Anselm baseball
team completed its two-game series with Rollins College this
evening. After averaging over seven runs a game in their
first six outings, the Hawks' bats were silenced today, falling to
the Tars 8-0. The win lifts the Tars to 12-5 (3-0 Sun St.),
while the Hawks drop to 1-6 (0-0 NE-10).
The Hawks got 14 runners on base, and three made it as far as
third, but none could cross the plate as the Hawks took their first
shutout loss of the season. Nevertheless, first baseman
Robert Kelly (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) had
a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double.
Richie Manzi (Plymouth, N.H.) and Mike
Garczynski (Fort Myers, Fla.) had the other two hits for
the Hawks.
The Hawks' pitchers had an admirable outing, never allowing more
than two runs in an inning, but with no run support from their
teammates, they were forced to take the loss. David
Giarrusso (Cranston, R.I.) started for the Hawks and
allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits in six innings.
James Farrington (West Milford, N.J.) finished out
the game, allowing two runs on four hits over two innings. Both
pitchers had one strikeout.
Every member of the Tars had at least one hit in the game, for a
total of 14. Ryan Luker led the Tars, going
3-for-5 with an RBI, and centerfielder Taylor
Ferguson went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Marc Hewett pitched the first seven innings,
allowing all five hits and striking out nine batters.
Taylor Smith closed out the game, pitching two
innings and getting three strikeouts.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow morning, when they take on
Bentley University in a nonconference game at Rollins College
beginning at 11:00 am.
