MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm
men's lacrosse team hosted the Molloy College Lions this
afternoon in the Hawks' home opener at the Derryfield
School. The Hawks leapt out to a large lead early in the
first quarter, before cruising to a 17-10 final score over the
Lions. The win lifts the Hawks to 3-1 (1-0 NE-10), while the
Lions drop to 1-3 (0-1 ECC).
The Hawks got off to a quick start, scoring six unanswered goals
in the first quarter. Ryan Henry (Norwood,
Mass.) made it 7-0 at 14:01 in the second, before the
Lions finally got on the board with a goal by Peter
Boucher at 13:07. The Hawks responded with three
more quick goals to go up 10-1. Play was roughly even
throughout the rest of the game, with the final score resting at
17-10.
Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) and Ryan
McDonald (Bow, N.H.) led the Hawks with four goals
apiece. Matt O'Connell (Charlestown,
Mass.) registered two goals and three assists, for a
game-leading five points, and Colin Lacey (S. Hadley,
Mass.) added three assists of his own. Lion
midfielder Peter Boucher led both teams with five goals in the
game, and teammate Tommy Susko netted three more,
as they combined for eight of the Lions' 10 goals.
Lion goalkeeper Tommy Bruno made 12 saves in
the game, and NE-10 Goalie of the Week Pat Acone (Bow,
N.H.) stopped eight shots. The Hawks hit the road
next weekend, when they travel to Garden City, N.Y., to face the
Adelphi University Panthers in a Northeast-10 competition on March
27th beginning at 4:00 pm.
