Manchester, N.H. (November 20) -- Despite a 3-2 lead entering the third period, the Saint Anselm Hawks men's ice hockey team fell to the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds 7-4 in their second home game of the season.
The Thoroughbreds jumped on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining in the first period when Hunter Thayer (Shelburne, Vt.) scored his second goal of the season. Saint Anselm knotted the score at 1-1 on Ryan Butler's (Arlington, Mass.) first goal of the 2010-11 season right in front of the net.
The Hawks took the lead just three minutes into the second period on a shorthanded goal by Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.). Butler and John Hyslip (Andover, Mass.) assisted on the goal. Skidmore scored on a power play goal, followed up by a five-on-three goal by Saint Anselm's Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.), and the Hawks took a 3-2 lead into the locker room.
Tyler Doremus (Aspen, Colo.) scored Skidmore's third goal of the game just 2:35 into the third period, followed by an Alex Mykolenko (Kharkov, Ukraine) goal to give Skidmore the lead just four minutes later. Vlad Gavrik (Needham, Mass.) made the game 5-3 for Skidmore, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Mullin added his second goal of the game and season making the score 5-4. The Thoroughbreds scored two more goals, both empty net goals, to conclude the scoring of the game.
The Hawks drop to 0-2 on the young season, and 0-2 in the ECAC East, while the win improves Skidmore's record to 1-1 overall, and 1-1 in the ECAC East. The Hawks will play next on the road December 1st when they play Assumption to open their Northeast-10 campaign.
