Volleyball Wins on Senior Day in Straight Sets, 3-0

Manchester, N.H. (October 30th) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Saint Anselm Hawks volleyball team honored two seniors before the teams final home match of the season. Stephanie Devlin (Beverly, Mass.) and Kelly Rudolph (Winter Park, FL.) were honored for their accomplishments to the Hawks program. After the celebrations, the match commenced, which was won by the Hawks 3-0.

The first set was won 25-19, with Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) recording four kills and three digs. Kyla Gustavson (Nashua, N.H.) added four kills and four digs. Rachel Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y.) assisted on 13 of the Hawks 15 kills in the set.

The Hawks took the second set as well, by a 25-22 final. Margaret Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Cal.) led the Hawks defensively with 11 digs in the set. Flaherty added 13 more assists.

Early on, with the score 4-3 in the third set, Flaherty served for five straight points as the Hawks jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Following a timeout, the Hawks went on an impressive 13-6 run to close out a 25-12 win. During that stretch, the Hawks scored three points with Tereschuck serving, along with three more with Flaherty serving. Samantha Elliott (Cumberland, R.I.) tallied four kills and two digs in the winning set.

In the match, Tencza tallied 13 kills, while Elliott added nine. Flaherty assisted on 39 kills, and Tereschuk dug out 21 balls for the Hawks defensively.

The Hawks, who are now 3-14 overall and 2-10 in the Northeast-10 Conference, will be on the road for their final two games. The team will travel to New Haven next Friday for a 7:00 pm match, followed by a 1:00 pm match next Saturday against Southern Connecticut to close out the season. The loss drops Assumptions record to 9-21 overall, and 0-12 in the conference.
