Manchester, N.H. (October 20th) - - The Saint
Anselm Hawks volleyball team was in action tonight at home against
the River Hawks of UMass.- Lowell. Despite making a seven point run
in the third set, the Hawks fell to the River Hawks 3-0, which
drops their record to 2-13 overall (1-9, Northeast-10. The win
improves UMass.- Lowell's record to 10-9 overall (5-4,
Northeast-10).
The first set was won by the River Hawks, 25-18. Saint Anselm
won the first point, but were countered by three runs of four
points by the River Hawks. Lauren Ross
(Dracut, Mass.) led the Hawks in the set with three
kills.
The second set was also won by the River Hawks 25-18. Again, the
Hawks scored the first point and contested the entire match, until
Lea Freeman (Methuen, Mass.) took serve at 22-18
for UMass.- Lowell. She served the last three points to win the
set. Rachel Flaherty
(Cold Spring, N.Y) assisted on all four Hawk kills.
In the third and final set, the Hawks found themselves down
24-12 with Samantha
Elliott (Cumberland, R.I.) serving. The Hawks rallied
and scored seven points to make the score 24-19, forcing the River
Hawks to call a timeout. After play resumed, UMass.-Lowell gathered
themselves and put away the final point of the match.
In the match for the Hawks, Ross tallied eight kills and two
digs. Flaherty assisted on 11 kills, while Margaret
Tereschuk (Mission Viejo, Cal.) had 15 digs for Saint
Anselm.
The Hawks will be in action again this Saturday to play
Merrimack on the road at 1:00 pm.
