Manchester, N.H. (October 19th) - -In a
scoreless contest until the 81st minute, the Saint Anselm Hawks
women's soccer team fell on the road to cross-town rival Southern
New Hampshire by a 2-0 final. The Hawks record falls to 5-8-1
overall (5-7-1 Northeast-10).
The game was controlled by the Penmen from the start, as they
outshot the Hawks 21-2 for the game, including 11 shots on goal.
Jackie
Cooney (Braintree, Mass.) was forced to make nine
saves, including six in the second half.
In the 81st minute, Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester,
N.H.) scored the game-winning goal for Southern New
Hampshire on a cross from Ariel Teixeira (Warren,
R.I.) on the left side of the 18-yard box. Cooney was
forced to leave the line on goal.
The Penmen tacked on an insurance goal in the final minute of
the game on a Teixeira goal which came from the penalty spot. The
goal sealed the win for the Penmen, who are now 8-6-1 overall
(7-5-1 Northeast-10).
The Hawks return to action on Saturday to take on Adelphi in a
Northeast-10 Conference showdown. The game will kickoff at 12:00
pm.
