Waltham, Mass. (October 13th) - - On the road
today, the Saint Anselm Hawks women's soccer team played
Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley College. The Hawks jumped
out to a 1-0 lead on Jackie McEvoy's
(Spring, Texas) first goal of the season off of a
Jennifer
Pearl (Stoughton, Mass.) corner kick. The lead held
up, and the Hawks won the game by an impressive4-0 margin. The win
improves the Hawks record to 4-7-1 overall (4-6-1, Northeast-10),
while the loss drops the Falcons record to 0-11-2 overall (0-9-2,
Northeast-10).
McEvoy's goal, which was scored in the 33rd minute, proved to be
the only one of the half. Jackie Cooney
(Braintree, Mass.) was forced to make just one save in the
half.
The Hawks poured on the scoring very early in the second half,
scoring goals in the 46th, 49th, and 51st minutes.
The first goal of the half was scored by Pearl, which was assisted
by McEvoy. The next goal was netted by McEvoy again, which was also
assisted by Pearl. Scoring the goal in the 51st minute was
Emily
Rooney (Quincy, Mass.), which was her
first of the season. Jillian DaSilva
(East Taunton, Mass.) assisted on the goal.
Saint Anselm outshot Bentley 8-4 in the half, and 13-12 in the
game. The Hawks also put more of their shots on target, with a 7-2
mark.
On her way to the shutout, Cooney made two total saves.
The Hawks will return to the field on Saturday to take on
Mass.-Lowell at 11:00 am. The game will be preceded by Senior-Day
celebrations.
