Manchester, N.H. (October 12th) - -The Saint
Anselm Hawks men's soccer team was in action this afternoon against
cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University. The Hawks fell
to the Penmen by a final score of 3-1, dropping their record to
3-9-1 overall (3-5-1, Northeast-10). The Penmen improve their
record to 10-1-1 overall (6-1-1, Northeast-10) with the win.
The first half was controlled by the Penmen, as they outshot the
Hawks by a 9-5 margin. The Hawks were unable to put a shot on goal
in the first 45 minutes. Southern New Hampshire tallied their first
goal of the game in the 32nd minute on a Chris Tsonis
(Dartmouth, Mass.) goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Eric
Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) made two saves in the half
for the Hawks.
The Penmen added two more goals in the half, one by
Christian Rodriguez (Manchester, N.H.) in the 62nd
minute, and then in the 78th minute by Jon Brockway
(Lebanon, N.H.) off a corner kick. The Hawks rallied and
scored a goal of their own in the 84th minute, when Kevin
Greene (Londonderry, N.H.) scored on a rocketed ball from
about 35 yards away from the goal. Saint Anselm's rally came up
short, and Greene's goal proved to be their only one of the
match.
For the Hawks, Keesen Howe (Norwich,
Conn.) put two shots on target, while George Lamptey
(Worcester, Mass.) tallied three shots total. Moriarty
made four saves in the game.
The Hawks will be in action again this Saturday, when they
travel to the University of New Haven for a Northeast-10 matchup.
The game will kick off at 1:00 pm.
