Manchester, N.H. (October 10th) - - The Saint
Anselm Hawks men's soccer team played a non-conference game against
Mercy College this afternoon. When the last second had ticked off
the clock, the Hawks found themselves on the losing end of a 1-0
score. The loss drops the Hawks record to 3-7-1 overall (3-4-1,
Northeast-10), while the win improves the Mavericks record to 4-5-2
overall (0-4, East Coast Conference).
The first half was evenly contested, as each team played very
well defensively. The Hawks allowed just two shots on goal, while
Mercy allowed just one shot on goal. The Hawks outshot the
Mavericks 7-3. Mark Kotsopoulos
(Shrewsbury, Mass.) made two saves in the first half for
the Hawks.
In the 66th minute, Mercy scored to make the score 1-0. The goal
came on a header by Jason Schobert (New Paltz,
N.Y.) from a free kick. The goal proved to be the only
goal of the game, as the Mavericks went on to win.
For the Hawks, Joshua Rocco (North
Reading, Mass.), Maximilian
Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.) and
Michael Kearney
(East Bridgewater, Mass.) each had a shot on target.
Kotsopoulos made four saves in net for Saint Anselm.
The Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday to take on
cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire. The game will kick off at
4:00 pm.
