Hawks Drop 75-63 Final to Visiting Assumption

Manchester, N.H. (January 26) -- Saint Anselm had its season-high, five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as Assumption defeated the Hawks by a 75-63 final at Stoutenburgh Gym. The game was the 112th all-time meeting in one of the region's oldest rivalries, with the Hawks holding a 58-54 edge.

Prior to the start of the game, Saint Anselm junior co-captain Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) was honored with a basketball in recognition of his 1,000th career point. Baudinet scored his 1,000th career point on January 6th at Le Moyne, becoming the 43rd player in Saint Anselm men's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points.

Assumption jumped out to a quick 25-11 lead midway through the first half before the Hawks narrowed the margin to nine at 25-16 following a Baudinet layup. After the lead went back to double digits, Baudinet knocked down a three with 6:20 left to cut the back down to nine. Assumption maintained the nine-point lead for the rest of the half, taking a 38-29 lead into the break. The Greyhounds knocked down six three-pointers in the first half, led by two each from Tim Beinert and Ronson Quick

After the Greyhounds pushed the lead to as many as 13 points midway through the second half, the Hawks chipped away and cut the lead to six folowing a pair of Baudinet free throws with 5:27 left. Assumption quickly pushed the lead back to double digits though and came away with the 12-point victory.

Baudinet led the Hawks with 21 points, his ninth 20+ point game of the year. Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) was the only other Hawk in double figures at 10 points in 20 minutes. Mike Baldarelli led four Greyhounds in double figures with 21 points.

With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 12-7 overall and 8-6 in the Northeast-10, while Assumption wins its third straight and now sits at 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to American International for a 3:30 p.m. start in Springfield, Mass.
