Manchester, N.H. (January 20) -- In the 20th
all-time meeting between the two schools, Saint Anselm came out on
top with a 62-51 victory over Southern Connecticut on Wednesday
night to snap an overall three-game losing streak.
The visiting Owls jumped out to an early two-point lead in the
early going before the Hawks took the lead for good on a
three-pointer from Erin Higgins (Mansfield,
Mass.). After pushing to a 22-15 lead with 6:11 left in
the first half, the Hawks led by at least three points over the
rest of the half for a 30-24 lead at the break.
Saint Anselm came out strong in the second half and pushed the
lead into double figures with 13:47 left on a layup from
Courtney May (Lakeville, Mass.). Southern
Connecticut cut the lead down to seven with under three minutes
left before the Hawks came away with the double-digit victory.
Higgins led four Hawks in double figures with 15 points, along
with 12 points from sophomore Megan Howard (St. Paul,
Minn.) and 11 each from sophomore Epiphany Smith
(Springdale, Ark.) and freshman Morgan Frame
(Waterville, Maine).

Pierson each had 11 points for Southern Connecticut.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-10 overall and 4-8 in the
Northeast-10, while the Owls now sit at 9-8 overall and 6-6 in the
league. Saint Anselm returns to action on Saturday afternoon,
traveling to New Haven for a 2 p.m. start.
