Manchester, N.H. (January 16) -- Held under 40
points and under 30 percent shooting from the field, the Saint
Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 57-38 final to Saint Rose
on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Hawks jumped out to an early seven-point lead in the first
half before the Golden Knights answered with a 13-5 run to take the
lead for good with 7:45 left in the opening period. Saint Anselm
outrebounded the Golden Knights by a 34-33 margin, including 11-6
on the offensive end, but were unable to overcome 21 turnovers as
the team dropped its third straight game.
Leading the Hawks was senior guard Erin Higgins
(Mansfield, Mass.) with nine points, knocking down 3-for-4
three-point attempts and adding two assists and two steals.
Sophomore Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) led the
rebounding effort with eight boards in 22 minutes.
Ashley Rath led all scorers with 14 points for
Saint Rose, while Amy Voelkel nearly had a
double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Saint Anselm falls to 6-10 overall and 3-8 in the Northeast-10,
while Saint Rose improved to 7-9 overall and 6-5 in the league. The
Hawks are back in action on Wednesday night, hosting Southern
Connecticut for a 5:30 p.m. start at Stoutenburgh Gym.
