Pleasantville, N.Y. (January 12) -- Led by a
career-high 40-point effort from junior co-captain Thomas
Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), the Saint Anselm men's
basketball team came away with a 105-100 overtime win at Pace on
Tuesday night at the Goldstein Athletic Center. The Hawks drained
17 three-pointers in the game, the second-highest single-game total
in Saint Anselm history.
Saint Anselm took a 50-44 advantage into the halftime break as
the team turned a one-point deficit into the lead in the last
minute of the period. A three-pointer from junior Pat
Luptowski (Keene, N.H.), along two baskets from classmate
John Mariano (Naugatuck, Conn.), put the visitors
in front by six at the half. Luptowski led the team with 20 points
in the period, en route to a career-high 26 points.
In the second half, the two teams traded the lead back and forth
before heading into overtime in the second 100-point
game of the season for the Hawks. In the extra period, senior
Greg Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) nailed a
three-pointer with 1:26 left in the game to give the Hawks the lead
for good and secure their second straight win. In addition, it was
their fifth win in the last seven games.
Baudinet dropped a career-best 40 points, just the 10th 40+
point game in Saint Anselm history. Luptowski added a career-best
26 points, along with 12 points from freshman Quinn
Woodhouse (Gaylord, Mich.). Ryan Woods
had 27 points to lead four Setters in double figures.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 9-6 overall and an even 5-5
in Northeast-10 play, while Pace falls to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in
the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday afternoon,
hosting Saint Rose for a 3:30 p.m. start.
