Hawks Soar at Home, Complete Sweep of Tri-Match

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm volleyball team hosted its second and final home tri-match this afternoon in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium against the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College and the Assumption College Greyhounds.  The Hawks rang victorious as they defeated both teams they faced in the day's competition.

The Hawks opened the day with an intense nail-biter against the Purple Knights.  After two hours and nine minutes of play, Saint Anselm came out on top with a 3-2 defeat over St. Michael's.  Every game was as close as can be, with final scores of 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, and 16-14.  Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.) had 19 kills in the match and Rachel Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y.) had 39 assists.  Stephanie Devlin (Beverly, Mass.) had four service aces and a serving percentage of .913.  For the Purple Knights, Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y.) had 24 kills and just two errors for a percentage of .524.  Frazier also led both teams with five blocks in the match.

In the second  match of the day, the Purple Knights swiftly defeated the Greyhounds 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15).  Peterka recorded eight service assists in the match and a .966 service percentage. Additionally, Maggie Zuhlke (Queensbury, N.Y.) recorded 24 assists for the Purple Knights.  The Greyhounds' statistical leaders included Aimee Drainville (Rockville, R.I.), who had 10 kills in the match and Samantha Lupinski (Waltham, Mass.), who participated in all four of the team's blocks.

In today's night cap, the Hawks soared past the Greyhounds 3-1, to complete a sweep in today's tri-match.  Saint Anselm got off to a slow start, ceding the first game to Assumption, 25-17, but they then went on to win the next three games in a row to defeat the Greyhounds.  Rachel Flaherty added 40 assists in the match for a grand total of 79 on the day.  Freshman Samantha Elliott (Cumberland, R.I.) participated in six out of the team's seven blocks, four of which were solo.

Following today's competitions, the Hawks improve to 3-1 (0-0, NE-10), the Greyhounds fall to 2-3 (0-0, NE-10), and the Purple Knights are now 2-2 (0-1, NE-10).
