Manchester, N.H. (April 5)-After falling to
Saint Rose 6-5 in game one of an NE-10 doubleheader, the Saint
Anselm College Hawks, led by Matt Stone's (West Roxbury,
Mass.) walk-off RBI single, defeated the Golden Knights
4-3 in 10 innings in game two Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Park.
The split makes the Hawks 10-14 overall and 6-4 in NE-10 play,
while the split moves the Golden Knights to 9-17 and 5-7 in league
games.
In game one, the Hawks took a 5-1 lead led by freshman
Ben Waldrip's
(Medford,
Mass.) three hits, including a
home run and a double, and four RBI's through six innings. Saint
Rose added five runs in the next two innings to take the 6-5 lead
and the win.
Saint Anselm starter John Healy
(Cranston,
R.I.) went 6.1 innings
allowing three earned runs in the no decision, while Kyle
Lavin (Shelton,
Conn.) took the loss for the
Hawks going two-thirds of an inning allowing a run for his third
loss of the season. Saint Rose pitcher Jake Kozar
(Norwalk,
Conn.) pitched three scoreless
innings in relief to pick up his first win of the season.
In game two, the Hawks rallied from two runs down in the
bottom of the eighth when Ben Gunn (Vineyard
Haven, Mass.) scored on
an error and Waldrip knocked an RBI single to even the game at
three and force extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, Stone's RBI single scoring
Waldrip gave the Hawks their sixth NE-10 win of the season.
Saint Anselm starter Tim Cooney (E.
Bridgewater,
Mass.) went six innings allowing
three runs and five strikeouts in the no decision, while reliever
Bret Bartlett
(Duxbury,
Mass.) went two scoreless
innings, striking out three Golden Knights for his first win of the
season.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 6th, as they will
travel to Bridgeport for a 3:30 p.m. start.
