(April 8)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team
fell to Division I Dartmouth College 10-4 Wednesday afternoon at
Biondi Field. The loss drops the Hawks to 10-15 on the year, while
the win improves Dartmouth to 11-9 on the season.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the
second, when junior catcher Eric Baca
(Franklin,
N.H.) knocked an RBI single
scoring freshman first baseman Ben Waldrip
(Medford,
Mass.).
The Big Green took the lead with four runs in the third, three
runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it 9-1.
Shortstop Joe Sclafani (Palm
City,
Florida) knocked in four RBI's
and centerfielder Jake Carlson (Woodlands,
Texas) had two RBI's to put
Dartmouth out in front.
In the top of the sixth the Hawks answered with another run on
Alex Aguilar's
(Newbury,
Mass.) second double of the game
scoring Waldrip cutting the Dartmouth lead to 9-2.
Dartmouth tacked on another in the bottom of the sixth inning on
an RBI single from Ezra Josephson (Key
West,
Florida) to extend their lead to
10-2.
Saint Anselm crossed the plate twice in the top of the eighth to
cut the Big Green's lead to 10-4. Waldrip led off the inning with a
triple over the centerfielders head followed by another triple from
Aguilar for his second RBI of the game. Jimmy Garrigan's
(Plymouth,
Mass.) RBI groundout supplied the
second run of the inning for the Hawks.
Dartmouth starter Colin Britton
(Poughquag,
N.Y.) went 5.1 innings allowing
two runs on six hits and striking out two in the win. The Hawks
featured four pitchers in the game with Mike Fantini
(Haverhill, Mass.) getting his first start of the season
going two innings allowing no runs and only three hits. Saint
Anselm reliever Kyle Lavin
(Shelton,
Conn.) took the loss allowing
seven runs in an inning of work.
The Hawks return to the diamond tomorrow, April 9th, as they
will travel to Merrimack College for an NE-10 doubleheader starting
at noon.
