Springfield, Mass.
(April 26)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team
fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International 5-1 Sunday
afternoon at AIC Park in NE-10 action. The loss drops the Hawks to
15-27 overall and 10-16 in conference play, while the win improves
AIC to 8-28 overall and 6-18 in league games.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the
first, on a three-run home run from Kevin Farrell
(Wilbraham, Mass.) down the right field line off of Hawks
starter Myke Fortier (Andover, Mass.).
AIC added to their lead in the fifth, when Jon Thorpe
(E. Longmeadow, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch and
Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) ripped an RBI
single up the middle for the 5-0 advantage.
The Hawks would finally cross the plate in the ninth inning, on
an RBI double from Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody,
Mass.) scoring Steve Panza (Watertown,
Mass.) to cut it to 5-1. But AIC reliever
Geoff McCowat (Sterling,
Virginia) came into the game and struck out the next two
Hawks for the NE-10 victory.
Fortier took the loss for the Hawks going 4.1 innings and
allowing five runs, while AIC starter Zach Bunszell
(Medford, Mass.) went eight plus innings, allowing five
hits and one run in the win.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, April 26th, as they will
travel to UMass-Lowell for a 3:30 NE-10 game.
