(April 23)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team
fell to the Southern Connecticut State Owls 4-1 in NE-10 play on
Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Hawks to 13-25 overall and
9-14 in conference play, while the Owls sixth win in a row makes
them 18-17 overall and 13-8 in league games.
The Owls hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the second on an
RBI double from Matt Pessey (Greenwich, Conn.) for
the 1-0 lead.
Saint Anselm threatened in the top of the third with the bases
loaded and only one out. Southern Conn. starter Ryan Yerina
(Trumbull, Conn.) induced a double play to get out of the
jam.
The Hawks would grab their only run of the game on an RBI single
from Jimmy Garrigan (Plymouth, Mass.) scoring
Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) to cut the lead
to 2-1.
Southern Conn. would add a run in the fifth and in the eighth
for the 4-1 victory.
Saint Anselm starter John Healey (Cranston,
R.I.) went four innings allowing three runs on two hits
and walking five in the loss. Yerina went six innings allowing 10
hits and only one run in his fourth win of the season.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 24th, as they will
host Merrimack College in a non-league game starting at 3:30 at
Sullivan Park.
