Manchester, N.H. (April 17)-The Saint Anselm
College baseball team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University,
for the second time in three days, 3-0 in NE-10 action at Sullivan
Park. The loss drops the Hawks to 12-20 overall and 8-9 in
conference play, while the win improves Bentley to 20-16 overall
and 11-6 in league contests.
Through the first six innings, Hawks starter Tim Cooney
(E. Bridgewater, Mass.) and Falcons hurler Rob
Finneran (Garden City, N.Y.) kept the game scoreless.
In the seventh, Bentley crossed the plate on a two-RBI single
from Brett Damato (Commack, N.Y.) to make it 2-0
visitors.
The Falcons added another in the top of the ninth on
Mark Lane's (Tyngsboro, Mass.)
sacrifice fly for the 3-0 Falcon lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Dan DeCoste (Chelmsford,
Mass.) and Eric Baca (Franklin, N.H.) led
off with back-to-back singles for Saint Anselm, but Finneran would
not be denied and retired the side for the complete game shutout.
Cooney took the loss for the Hawks going 6.1 innings allowing
two runs on eight hits.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 18th, as they will
travel to Franklin Pierce for a noon doubleheader.
