Hawks Fall in 10 Innings to New Haven, 4-1

Manchester, N.H. (April 16) -- A three-run 10th inning by New Haven was the difference as Saint Anselm dropped a 4-1 extra-innings final to the Chargers at Sullivan Park on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 12-19 overall and 8-8 in the NE-10 with the loss.

The two teams were scoreless until the seventh when the Chargers got on the board with a single run coming on an RBI single to right by Dan Harper. Saint Anselm answered in the bottom of the inning though as Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody, Mass.) flied out to left field, scoring Jimmy Garrigan (Plymouth, Mass.) to tie things at 1-1.

Saint Anselm starter Sean Hayden (Haverhill, Mass.) went seven innings, scattering seven hits with just one run, one walk and two strikeouts before giving way to Myke Fortier (Andover, Mass.) for the eighth. Junior David Giarrusso (Cranston, R.I.) came in to pitch a scoreless ninth before the Chargers put up three runs in the top of the 10th. After an RBI double by Evan Okon gave New Haven a 2-1 lead, Jimmy Rivas launched a two-run homer to left to account for the 4-1 final. The Hawks threatened in the bottom of the inning before a game-ending double play.

Giarrusso drops to 2-2 on the season with the loss, while Mitch Rossi improved to 2-0 with the victory.

The Hawks return to action on Friday afternoon as the team hosts Bentley at Sullivan Park for a 3:30 p.m. start.
