Waltham,
Mass. (April 13)-The Saint Anselm
College baseball team, led by Matt Sucharewicz's
(Peabody,
Mass.) 4-for-5 and five RBI
effort, defeated the Bentley University Falcons 10-5 Monday
afternoon in NE-10 action at DeFelice Field. The win improves the
Hawks to 12-16 overall and 8-5 in NE-10 play, while the loss drops
the Falcons fall to 18-15 overall and 9-6 in conference games.
The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first
inning, when Jimmy Garrigan
(Plymouth,
Mass.) and Sucharewicz each
cracked two-RBI hits off of Bentley starter Jarrod Marchesi
(Peabody,
Mass.).
Saint Anselm extended their lead in the top of the fifth on a
two-RBI double from Matt Stone (West
Roxbury,
Mass.) and an RBI single from
Sucharewicz for the 7-0 lead.
Bentley hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, with a
two-RBI triple from Charlie Pagliarulo
(Medford,
Mass.) to cut the Hawks lead to
7-2.
In the top of the seventh, Saint Anselm added two more runs on
Sucharewicz's fourth and fifth RBI's of the day on a single up the
middle for a 9-2 lead.
The Falcons continued to cut into the lead in the bottom half of
the seventh on an RBI single from Mike DeCoste
(Chelmsford,
Mass.) to make it 9-3. The next
batters, Garret Stenhouse
(Warwick,
R.I.) and James Roche
(Arlington,
Mass.), each tacked on two-out
RBI's to make it 9-5.
The Hawks answered right back in the top of the eighth when
senior shortstop Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven,
Mass.) scored on a Bentley error
to lengthen their advantage to 10-5 for their eighth NE-10 victory
of the season.
Saint Anselm freshman starter John Healy
(Cranston,
R.I.) went 6.2 innings allowing
three earned runs and striking out four in his second win of the
season. Marchesi went seven innings for the Falcons allowing 11
hits and seven earned runs in the losing effort.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 14th, as they will
travel to NE-10 foe New Haven for a 3:30 p.m. game.
