Manchester, N.H. (April 1)-The Saint Anselm
College baseball team fell to the Eagles of Post University 11-6
Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Park in non-conference action. The
loss drops the Hawks to 8-12 on the season, while the win improves
Post to 15-5 in 2009.
The Hawks jumped out to a four-run lead in the bottom of the
third when Matt Stone (West
Roxbury,
Mass.), Jimmy Garrigan
(Plymouth,
Mass.) and Eric Simm
(Salem, N.H.) each notched RBI singles to give Saint
Anselm a 4-0 lead.
Post would even up the game in the top of the fifth and take the
lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from catcher
Mike Moriarty (Long
Beach,
N.Y.) for the 5-4 lead.
In the seventh the Eagles would explode for five more runs led
by Jim Conto's (West
Hampstead, N.Y.) two-RBI triple to extend
Post's lead to 10-4.
After Post added another run in the top of the ninth, the Hawks
would score twice in the bottom half on RBI's from Evan
Kelleher (Haverhill,
Mass.) and TJ Bowler
(Pittsfield,
Mass.), but it would not be
enough as the Hawks would lose 11-6 in non-conference action.
Post reliever Michael Wolfe
(Ringwood,
N.J.) would throw five scoreless
innings allowing only one hit to pick up the win, while Hawks
reliever Myke Fortier
(Andover,
Mass.) would take the loss going
an inning and a third allowing five runs on four hits for his first
loss of the season.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 2nd, as they will
host cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire in an NE-10 contest at
3:30 at Sullivan Park.
