Hawk's Pitching Too Much for Penmen in 3-1 Win

Manchester, N.H. (March 31)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team defeated cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire 3-1 in NE-10 action Tuesday afternoon at Penman Field. The win lifts the Hawks to 8-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Penmen fall to 8-11 overall and 5-3 in NE-10 play.

The Hawks struck first in the top half of the third when sophomore centerfielder TJ Murphy (Reading, Mass.) singled in senior shortstop Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven, Mass.), who had tripled earlier in the inning, to make it 1-0 Hawks.

The Penmen would answer right back on an RBI groundout from Skyler Byrd (Milford, N.H.) scoring Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.) to even the game at one.

Saint Anselm would waste no time taking the lead right back when they would cross the plate twice in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody, Mass.) would knock a RBI single and Evan Kelleher's (Haverhill, Mass.) sac-fly would give the Hawks a 3-1 NE-10 road victory.

Saint Anselm starter John Healy (Cranston, R.I.) would go seven innings allowing zero earned runs and only three hits while striking out eight Penmen in the win. Freshman reliever Tim Cooney (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) would pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth for his first career save. Southern New Hampshire starter Steven Golbranson (Abington, Mass.) would go three and a third innings allowing six hits and three earned runs in the losing effort.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, April 1st, as they will host Post University at 3:30 p.m. at Sullivan Park.
