Hawks Drop Panthers 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. (March 23)-The Saint Anselm College baseball team defeated the Panthers of Adelphi University 3-0 Monday afternoon at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The win improves the Hawks to 6-10 on the season, while Adelphi falls to 6-5 in 2009.

The Hawks who scattered 10 hits in the game, hit the scoreboard in the top if the seventh when senior shortstop Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch and junior first baseman Matt Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) ripped a RBI single scoring Evan Kelleher (Haverhill, Mass.) to give Saint Anselm a 2-0 lead.

Saint Anselm would tack on another run in the top of the ninth on a RBI single from Tim Griswold (Holmdel, N.J.) scoring freshman Dan DeCoste (Chelmsford, Mass.) for the 3-0 non-conference win.

Hawk freshman starter Ben Waldrip (Medford, Mass.) went eight innings allowing no runs and only four hits while striking out four in the win. Freshman reliever Brett Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass.) picked up his first career save pitching the top of the ninth inning. Adelphi reliever Robert Nixon (Welland, Ontario) took the loss going three innings giving up two runs.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, March 28th, as they will host NE-10 foe Assumption at noon for a doubleheader.
