Pleasantville, N.Y. (March 22)-The Saint Anselm
College baseball team fell to the Pace University Setters 3-2, by
allowing three ninth inning runs, on Sunday afternoon at Finnerty
Field. With the loss the Hawks fall to 5-10 overall and 2-1 in
conference, while Pace moves to 6-11 and 1-2 in NE-10 action.
Saint Anselm scored first in the top of the seventh when senior
shortstop Ben Gunn (Vineyard Haven,
Mass.) would score on a Pace
error to make it 1-0 Hawks. The very next batter, freshman first
baseman Benjamin Waldrip
(Medford,
Mass.), ripped a RBI single up
the middle to score second baseman Jeff Criscuolo (Durham,
Conn.) for the 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, a failed pick-off attempt gave Pace
their first run of the game to make it 2-1. Kenny Wright
(Middle Island,
NY) hit a sacrifice fly to tie
the score at 2-2. Then, freshman Tyler Hart (Poughquag,
NY) hit a ball over the centerfielders head to knock in
Pace's third run of the game, and give the Setters a 3-2 walk-off
win.
Saint Anselm freshman starter John Healy
(Cranston,
R.I.) went eight innings allowing
only one earned run, eight hits and striking out six in the loss.
Pace reliever Michael Tamburino
(Baldwin,
N.Y.) picked up his first career
win throwing a perfect top of the ninth inning.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, March 23rd, as they will
travel to Adelphi for a 3 p.m. start time.
