Milford, N.H. (March 16) -- Led by a seven-goal
outburst in the second quarter, the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse
team defeated Plymouth State by an 11-4 final at the Hampshire Dome
on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Hawks got on the board first with the lone goal of the
opening quarter as senior Matt Surette (Wakefield,
Mass.) scored with 6:52 left in the period. The second
quarter is when the visitors took control, led by two goals each
from Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) and Chris
Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) for an 8-0 halftime lead.
Plymouth State scored the lone goal of the third period as
Brett Zebrowski made it an 8-1 margin heading into
the final quarter. Each team found the back of the net three times
in the fourth as the Hawks came away with the 11-4 victory and
their first win of the season.
Sophomore Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made two
saves in net for the Hawks to pick up the win while playing the
first three quarters, while Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.)
made three stops in the fourth period. Kevin Hayes
took the loss for the Panthers while making 13 saves.
Saint Anselm improves to 1-2 overall, while Plymouth State is
now 0-2 on the season. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday,
March 21st as the team travels to Dominican College for a 1 p.m.
