Babson Park, Mass. (February 6)-The Saint
Anselm men's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC East game to the
Beavers of Babson 10-3 on Friday night. The loss drops the Hawks to
6-11-1, while the win improves the Beavers to 8-10-1 on the season.
The first period belonged to the Beavers as they scored three
unanswered goals to take a 3-0 lead into the break. Babson's
Chris Wood (Medford, Mass.), Jason
Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) and Alex DiPietro
(Winthrop, Mass.) each tallied first period goals for the
Beavers.
After Beaver's defenseman Nick Jones (Melrose,
Mass.) made it 4-0, the Hawks hit the scoreboard as
sophomore forward/defenseman Nick Wheeler (Nashua,
N.H.) scored off assists from Mike Nunzianto
(Guilford, Conn.) and Coleman Noonan (Norfolk,
Mass.) to make it 4-1. Babson would add three more goals
before the 15:34 mark in the second period to make it 7-1 in favor
of the home team. Nunzianto would score to cut into the lead from
Chris Sullivan (Needham, Mass.) and Joe
Fernald (Braintree, Mass.) to make it 7-2. With 21 seconds
left in the second, Beavers forward Matt Harrington
(Hanover, Mass.) would make it 8-2 heading into the final
stanza.
Saint Anselm would strike first in the third as sophomore
forward Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.) would get his
eighth lamplighter of the season from Ryan Butler
(Arlington, Mass.) and Wheeler to make it 8-3. After that,
the Beavers added two more goals for the 10-3 final.
Hawk goaltenders Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.),
Pat Gallagher (Framingham, Mass.) and
Brian Dowd (Hamburg, N.J.) all saw action in the
game and combined for 37 saves and Wyse took the loss, while
Beaver's goalies Andrew Peabody (Marblehead,
Mass.) and Travis Clarke (Waltham, Mass.)
combined to make 21 saves and Peabody picked up the win.
The Hawks return to the ice tomorrow, as they will travel to
UMass-Boston for a 3 p.m. start.
