(February 7)-The Saint Anselm College men's ice
hockey team defeated the Beacons of UMass Boston 4-1 on
Saturday afternoon in ECAC East action. The win improves the Hawks
to 7-11-1 overall, while the loss drops the Beacons to 7-12-2 on
the season.
Saint Anselm hit the scoreboard only 1:18 into the first period
off a goal from senior forward Matthew Lowe
(Stoughton,
Mass.) off assists from
John Penny
(Andover,
Mass.) and Nick Rossi
(Smithtown,
N.Y.) to put the Hawks up 1-0.
With just over five minutes remaining, Ryan Butler
(Arlington,
Mass.) would score the eventual
game winner off assists from Penny and Rossi again, to give Saint
Anselm a 2-0 lead. With less than a minute and a half left in the
first, UMass defenseman Brian Marks (Brownville,
N.Y.) put the Beacons on the scoreboard to make it 2-1
going into the second period.
After that it was all Hawks as Coleman Noonan
(Norfolk,
Mass.) would net a goal in the
second and third period for the 4-1 Saint Anselm victory.
In between the pipes for the Hawks was goalie Kevin
Fairweather (Woburn,
Mass.) who picked up his first
collegiate win by making 31 saves in his first career game. Beacon
goalie Ryan Donovan
(Rexford,
N.J.) stopped 29 shots in the
losing effort.
The Hawks hit the ice again against cross-town NE-10 rival
Southern New Hampshire University at 7 p.m. at the Ice Den.
