MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm volleyball
team travelled to Rindge, N.H. this evening to take on the Franklin
Pierce Ravens in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hawks
played well but came up short, falling to the Ravens in three
games.
The first game was a tight, back-and-forth struggle.
Neither team had a lead greater than two for the first 28 points,
until the Hawks pulled ahead with an 18-13 lead. However,
they could not quite close the door on the match, as the Ravens
made a comeback and took the game by a score of 27-25.
The second game started equally close, both teams
staying neck-and-neck up to 11-11, until the Ravens went on a tear
to take a 20-12 lead. The Hawks worked towards a comeback,
but could not do it fast enough, falling 25-18. The third
game was lopsided from the start, the Ravens jumping out to a quick
13-5 lead, as they took the final game 25-18 once again.
Sophomore Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.)
led the match with 10 kills. She also added 12 digs and two
blocks. Classmate Stephanie Mauer (South Hadley,
Mass.) had four kills and no errors in 10 attempts for a
team-leading .400 attack percentage, and she contributed three
blocks as well. Junior Stephanie Devlin (Beverly,
Mass.) gave the Hawks an additional four kills, two
blocks, and a service ace.
The win lifts Franklin Pierce to 5-13 (2-4 NE-10) while the
Hawks fall to 5-10 (1-6, NE-10). The Hawks return to action
Tuesday evening, October 13th, as they host the Merrimack College
Warriors for a Northeast-10 Conference match beginning at 7:30 pm.
