MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm men's
soccer team's four-game unbeaten streak was snapped this evening,
as they fell to the Merrimack College Warriors by a score of
2-1. The win lifts the Warriors to fifth place in the
conference with a 6-4-1 overall record (4-2 NE-10), while the Hawks
fall to 3-7-2 (3-4-1 NE-10).
The Hawks got on the board first, as freshman Matthew
Campbell (Lee, N.H.) netted his first career goal at 15:20
in the first half. Senior Tyler Sangster (Duxbury,
Mass.) added his team-high third assist on the play.
The Hawks held onto their lead for 13 minutes, before Merrimack
sophomore Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, Ont.) shot an
unassisted goal past freshman goalkeeper Eric Moriarty
(Center Harbor, N.H.) to knot the score at one.
The game remained tied for over 45 minutes, until Olof
Lindhe (Stockholm, Sweden) set up Sabadoz in the box who
netted his conference-leading 12th goal of the season to put the
Warriors ahead 2-1 and give Merrimack their second consecutive
victory.
The Warriors outshot the Hawks 17-12. However the Hawks
were more accurate, planting seven of the 12 on goal for a .583
shots-on-goal percentage, as compared to the Warriors' nine, for a
percentage of .529. Eric Moriarty had seven saves in the
game, and Warrior keeper Kevin Joyce (Mansfield,
Mass.) turned aside six shots.
The Hawks return home on Saturday, October 10th, to host the
Stonehill College Skyhawks, who are currently tied with the Hawks
for eighth place in the conference. The Hawks will kick off
at 1:00 pm.
