MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm volleyball
team hosted the Adelphi University Panthers this evening in
Stoutenburgh Gymnasium for a Northeast-10 Conference match.
The Panthers (13-6, 4-0 NE-10) pounced early to defeat the Hawks in
three games. The Panthers, who started their season 3-5, have
now won 10 out of their last 11 matches, running their current
winning streak to five consecutive victories. The loss drops
the Hawks to 5-7 (1-3 NE-10).
The Hawks started strong, battling to a close 25-21 loss in the
first game. However, the team struggled against the streaking
Panthers in the rest of the match, dropping the next two by scores
of 25-10 and 25-16. Junior Stephanie Devlin (Beverly,
Mass.) led the team with seven kills in the match.
Sophomore Charlotte Tencza (Greenfield, Mass.)
followed close behind with five kills tonight. The team
combined for 24 kills in the match, which is the second highest
this season in three-game matches (26 on September 19th against
Dominican).
Tencza served a team-leading two aces in the match, and Devlin
led both teams with a season-high five blocks, two solo and three
assisted. Freshman Samantha Elliott (Cumberland,
R.I.) added three blocks, one solo and two assisted.
The Hawks out-blocked the Panthers overall, recording six team
blocks over their five.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon, October 3rd, when
they host the Pace University Setters in Northeast-10 Conference
play beginning at 1:00 pm.
