Middlebury, Vermont (January 4)-The Saint
Anselm men's ice hockey team fell to Middlebury College 6-1 in the
consolation game of the 2009 Middlebury Holiday Classic Sunday
afternoon. The loss drops the Hawks to 3-3-1 on the year, while the
win moves Middlebury to 7-1-0.
The Panthers started the game scoring five unanswered goals in
the two periods until Joe Fernald
(Braintree,
Mass.) took a pass from captain
Seth Goodrich
(Salisbury,
Vermont) and goaltender
Brian Dowd
(Hamburg,
N.J.) to put the Hawks on the
scoreboard. A late third period goal made the final score 6-1 in
favor of the host Panthers.
Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) made 21 saves and
gave up five Panther goals in the loss over a period and a half.
Dowd made 17 saves in relief while only giving up one goal.
John Yancheck
(Hillsborough,
N.J.) made 23 saves to pick up
his third win of the season.
For his efforts in the tournament, freshman defenseman
Connor Logan
(Shelburne,
Vermont) was named to the
All-Holiday Classic Team.
The Hawks hit the ice again, January 7th, as they will host
Franklin Pierce in NE-10 action at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
