Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Hawks Grounded by Cadets 8-3

Manchester, N.H. (January 30)-In a game that featured 11 goals, the Saint Anselm men's ice hockey team dropped to the No. 13 ranked Norwich University Cadets 8-3 on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. The Hawks fall to 4-10-1 overall and 3-8-1 in ECAC East play, while the Cadets improve to 10-5-2 overall and 8-3-1 in ECAC East action to remain at the top of the standings.

The first period was held scoreless by Hawk netminder Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) setting aside 12 shots and Norwich goalie Ryan Klingensmith (Morton, Penn.) making nine saves heading into the second period.

The second period featured a combined six goals. The Cadets struck first on an even-strength goal from Craig Serino (Saugus, Mass.) just over a minute into the stanza. Two minutes later Hawk forward Brendan Carroll (Duxbury, Mass.) evened the game at one. Norwich forward Nikita Kashirsky (Moscow, Russia) took the lead right back at the 7:54 mark to make it 2-1 in favor of Norwich. The Hawks fought back as defender John Hennessey (Westwood, Mass.) netted his first lamplighter of the season to tie the game once again. Norwich would have the last laugh in the period as Eric Tallent (Garland, Texas) and Greg Eskedjian (Barrie, Ontario) would each score to give the Cadets a 4-2 lead going into the third period.

The Hawks were off to a great start in the second period as Norwich forward Chad Anderson (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) broke free on a breakaway and Wyse made a nice kick save to keep the game at 4-2. Just seconds later the Hawks made it 4-3 on an unassisted goal from Ryan Butler (Arlington, Mass.) to cut the lead in half. After that it was all Cadets as they would score four-unanswered goals in the third period for the 8-3 final.

Wyse made 32 saves and allowed eight goals for the Hawks, while Klingensmith set aside 18 shots in the ECAC East victory for Norwich.

The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow, as they will host NE-10/ECAC East rival Saint Michael's College at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
