Middlebury,
Vt. (January 23)-The Saint Anselm
College men's ice hockey team fell to the Panthers of Middlebury
College 6-4 Friday night at Chip Kenyon Arena. The loss drops the
Hawks to 4-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in ECAC East play, while the win
makes the Panthers 11-2-1.
The Hawks took the lead in the first period on goals from
Zachery Feiden
(Delray,
Florida) and John Penny
(Andover,
Mass.) with five minutes into the
period and with five minutes left in the period to give Saint
Anselm a 2-0 advantage headed into the second stanza.
The Panthers then rattled off three unanswered, two of which
were on the power-play, by Charlie Townsend (Pennington,
N.J.), John Sullivan (Delmar, N.Y.) and
Martin Drolet (Lachine, Quebec) to put the Hawks
down 3-2. Saint Anselm sophomore forward Coleman Noonan
(Norfolk,
Mass.) answered with a power-play
goal of his own to even the game at three heading into the last
period.
Middlebury again rattled off three unanswered goals, this time
with two from Charlie Strauss (Eagle
River,
Wisconsin) and the eventual
game-winner from Trevor Dodds
(Hanover,
N.H.) to make it 6-3 Panthers.
Feiden added another goal for the Hawks with 33 seconds left in the
game, but it would not be enough as the Panthers won 6-4.
Three Hawks had a multiple point game led by sophomore
defenseman John Hennessey's
(Westwood,
Mass.) three-assist night.
Sophomore Nick Wheeler
(Nashua,
N.H.) added two assists, while
Feiden led the team with a two-goal night.
In net for the Panthers, Doug Raeder
(Needham,
Mass.) played the first two
periods allowing three Hawk goals, while John Yanchek
(Hillsborough,
N.J.) made 11 saves in the third
period while only giving up one goal to pick up his seventh victory
of the season. Saint Anselm senior netminder Pat Gallagher
(Framingham,
Mass.) made 35 saves to fall to
2-3-0 on the season.
The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow, January 24th, as they will
travel to Williams College for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
