Colchester Vt. (January 20) -- Saint Anselm
dropped its fifth straight game on Tuesday night as the Hawks fell
to Saint Michael's by a 77-65 final at the Ross Sports Center in
Northeast-10 men's basketball action.
In the first half, Saint Michael's held its biggest lead of the
game at 36-24 with 2:25 left in the period. Saint Anselm used five
points from Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.) though in
a 7-0 run to pull within 36-31 at the halftime break. In the second
period, the Hawks tied the game at 47-47 with 13:41 left in the
game after a three-pointer from Greg Vetrano (Andover,
Mass.) before the Purple Knights began to pull away. Saint
Michael's used seven late free throws to defeat the Hawks for the
first time in 10 attempts.
The Hawks were led by a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double from
Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), followed by 12
points from Luptowski and 11 from Vetrano. Tyler
Schilling led the Purple Knights with a 26-point,
14-rebound double-double, both career highs. Four Purple Knights
finished the game in double figures.
With the loss, Saint Anselm drops to 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the
league, while Saint Michael's improves to 6-9 overall and 4-9 in
the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is back in action on Friday night as
the Hawks travel to American International for a Northeast-10 game.
