Manchester, N.H. (January 16)-The Saint Anselm
men's ice hockey team fell to the Cardinals of Wesleyan University
4-3 Friday night at Sullivan Arena. The loss drops the Hawks to
4-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in ECAC East play, while the win improves
the Cardinals to 2-10-0 on the season.
Saint Anselm attacked first as Ryan Butler
(Arlington,
Mass.) netted a power-play goal
four and a half minutes into the game off of assists from
Ryan Holley
(Owings,
Md.) and Brian Hartigan
(Saugus,
Mass.) to make it 1-0 Hawks. Four
minutes later sophomore Paul Snell
(Groton,
Mass.) lit the lamp with a
shorthanded goal on assists from Hartigan and John
Hennessey (Westwood,
Mass.) to extend the lead to 2-0.
Wesleyan cut into the lead on a Ben Stockman
(Danvers,
Mass.) goal at the 12:34 mark.
The Hawks bounced back just over a minute later when senior
Mike Nunzianto
(Guilford,
Conn.) scored his third goal of
the year from John Penny
(Andover,
Mass.) and Paul Snell
(Groton,
Mass.) to make it 3-1 going into
the second period.
After that it was all Cardinals as the Hawks were out-shot 27-3
in the second period. Power-play goals by Cardinal defenseman
Dallas Bossort
(Bismarck,
N.D.) and forward J.J.
Evans (Orland Park,
Ill.) evened the game at 3
apiece. Hawk goaltender Pat Gallagher
(Framingham,
Mass.) made 25 saves in the
period to keep it tied going into the third period.
Wesleyan took the lead for good in the third period on a goal
from forward Woody Redpath
(Norwich,
Vt.) for the 4-3 Hawk loss.
Cardinal goalie Mike Palladino
(Litchfield,
Conn.) made 26 saves in the
victory, while Gallagher made 44 saves in the losing effort.
The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow, January 17th, as they will
host Trinity College at 4 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
